Your First 30 Days: A Week-by-Week Checklist

Moving into a new place always comes with a mental checklist. Here's a general week-by-week rhythm for settling into a co-living house. Adjust it to your own situation and your specific lease terms.

Gladewood’s first house isn’t open yet. This is the rhythm we’d suggest for settling into any shared house, ours included.

Week One: Get oriented

  • Confirm that your keyless entry works and that you know how to reach management for any issue
  • Meet your housemates; even a quick introduction makes shared spaces feel less awkward
  • Locate the essentials: laundry, trash/recycling routine, Wi-Fi network name and password
  • Unpack the basics: bedding, toiletries, and whatever makes your room feel livable

Week Two: Settle the logistics

  • Update your address for mail, subscriptions, and any accounts that need it
  • Get a feel for the neighborhood: the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the closest transit stop if you're using one
  • Establish a shared-space rhythm with housemates, such as who typically cooks when and how the kitchen gets used

Week Three: Build routine

  • Settle into a regular schedule that works around shared spaces
  • Flag any maintenance issues you've noticed but haven't reported yet
  • Start finding your local spots: a coffee shop, a gym, or whatever fits your routine

Week Four: Check in

  • Think about how the fit is working: the room, the house dynamic, and the commute
  • Raise anything that's not working, with housemates directly or with management if needed
  • If everything's clicking, this is usually the point when it starts feeling like home

Every move-in is different, so treat this as a general guide. The main thing: don't sit on an issue for weeks hoping it resolves itself. A quick conversation, either with a housemate or with management, usually sorts things out faster than waiting.
