Living in Southside: Chattanooga's Redeveloped District

Southside starts just south of downtown, around Main Street and the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Residents value Main Street’s historic character.

The Choo Choo

The Chattanooga Choo Choo began as Terminal Station, a passenger terminal completed in 1909 that once linked Nashville and Atlanta. Today it’s a hotel and entertainment hub.

Baseball and art

Erlanger Park, the new home of the Chattanooga Lookouts minor league baseball team, was set to open in April 2026 in the South Broad District, with a connection to the Tennessee Riverwalk. Check the Lookouts’ schedule before you go. Nearby, Montague Park displays large-scale art installations, and residents describe it as open space with sculpture and walking paths.

Getting around

The free Downtown Shuttle runs out of Shuttle Park South at 1362 Market Street, so Southside sits on the same free loop as the riverfront.

Transit times and fares come from the city’s 2024 transit study, and places come from the Plan Chattanooga planning documents. Schedules change, so check CARTA before you ride.
